Welcome to Kura Chinese Medicine

Kura Chinese medicine is a private general Chinese medical practice located in South Yarra. We provide Chinese medical healthcare services to the residents of South Yarra and surrounding suburbs including Toorak, Prahran, Windsor, Richmond, Cremorne, Burnley, Southbank and East Melbourne.

Kura has teamed up with Vogue Medical, and provides acupuncture treatment that is covered by medicare. Acupuncture consults cost only $30 out of pocket with consults generally taking around 40 minutes.

Kura provides friendly and accessible acupuncture and Chinese medical healthcare for people living in and around South Yarra, Melbourne. We understand that health is a very personal thing, and we are committed to working with you to reach your chosen level of optimum health. We have helped our patients improve from all kinds of emotional and physical symptoms, and in many cases acupuncture treatment has changed their lives.

Please note that Vogue Medical (and consequently Kura) is a teaching clinic. The initial questionnaire,  as well as the initial questions asked by the nurse may be more extensive than you are used to. You may occasionally have student doctors, or doctors who are furthering their education by studying acupuncture observe your consultation. You will be informed well in advance if there are to be students observing. We understand if you feel uncomfortable with this, and prefer to have no-one else but your practitioner in the room. Please let us know if this is the case, and we will be happy to oblige.

Dr Sera Bainivanua-Ma,CMD  graduated from Victoria University with a Bachelor of Health Science – Traditional Chinese Medicine, double majoring in Acupuncture & Herbal medicine. As part of her clinical internship she underwent individual training as well as close supervision with one of Melbourne’s foremost acupuncturists and tui na specialists. She completed her clinical internship at the Shuguang Hospital in Shanghai. Here she worked in the departments of Gynaecology, Oncology (cancer), Internal Medicine and Acupuncture. She is registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA) and is a member of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA).
Dr Ma has a particular interest in musculoskeletal conditions, internal medicine and women’s health. She believes in working alongside your GP or other health care practitioner to attain the best possible results for her patients. Please note that Dr Ma is currently not practicing as she is concentrating on managing the clinic as well as being a stay at home mum for a few years.

Dr Helen Bourke,CMD completed her Bachelors of Applied Science in Chinese Medicine and Human Biology at RMIT University in Melbourne, and her clinical internship at Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in Nanjing, China.
Dr Bourke has a particular interest in treating pain, musculoskeletal conditions, digestive issues, women’s health and anxiety. She is experienced with a broad range of other health issues and enjoys working with patients to restore overall health and well being.

Dr Kay Kim, CMD is a fully qualified, professional traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and acupuncturist. Kay undertook five years of training completing her degree at RMIT. As a part of the course, she underwent clinical internship in Nanjing of Jiangsu province in China. Furthermore, she has finished individual clinical training in Korea.
Dr Kim has a particular interest in women’s health including menstrual problems, hormonal imbalance, fertility and pregnancy care. She has had excellent results in treating of digestive problems, mental health as well as pain management. She aims to treat the root cause of the conditions while gently addressing the signs and symptoms.

Dr Ellen Lee, CMD has a strong education plus training and experience in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western Medicine.
She holds Masters of Medicine from Shanghai TCM University and is a qualified Medical/TCM Doctor in China. She has had extensive and diverse work experience in reputable public hospitals in Shanghai and Australia.
She focuses in Women’s health, Kidney diseases, Pain-management and Hay fever.
She is professional, friendly and passionate.
